Thank you for considering signing the Good Food in Greenwich (GFiG) Food Hospitality Charter!

You’re probably already doing some amazing things, and 

this is an incredible step towards running a healthier, more sustainable business which brings loads of opportunities to shout about what you’re doing. 

Charter Criteria 

You only need to meet 5 of the 13 criteria which you can choose.  And if you don’t meet 5 criteria, we’ll support you through the process and give you simple clear steps on how to achieve this free charter.

Healthier Catering Commitment 

This is a voluntary scheme designed to support food businesses to help them make simple and affordable changes to the food they sell, to make it healthier for the customer.

Healthy Food

Increase the amount of fruit and veg on your menu and use seasonal produce

Good quality fresh, seasonal, or culturally appropriate produce can keep customers coming back again and again knowing they can contribute to their 5- a day and healthy eating goals.

Be Sugar Smart

Sugar Smart Greenwich is a pledge campaign for local businesses to join, to help raise awareness of the health impact of high levels of sugar in foods and drinks and take action to reduce sugar intake.

Your food business is capable of generating a phenomenal amount of food and non-food waste. This can lead to landfill pile-ups, water pollution and contribute to the generation of greenhouse gases

Have you achieved the Healthy Catering Commitment Award? The Eatwell Guide divides the foods and drinks into five main groups. Base your menu on Eatwell guide and limiting foods that are high in fat, sugar and salt when planning, procuring preparing, serving and promoting food. Food Standards Agency healthy catering guidance for different types of food businesses
Have you signed up to SUGAR SMART? Sugar Smart Greenwich is a way to get involved and take action to reduce amount of sugar people are consuming. Simply make a pledge, see Sugar Smart link in list above for ideas on what type of pledge you can make
Do you use the Eat Well Guide to plan your menus? (see Eat Well Guide link at the top of the page)

Are your menus seasonal? Trends show people want more veg or vegan options on menus when eating out of home For example, do you change your menu each season to make the most of seasonably available vegetable ingredients.
Do you use Fairtrade products? Check out link in list above to see which foods or drinks you use in your business and which you could replace with Fairtrade versions?
Are you a London Water Refill location? Refill locations is where people can eat, drink and shop with less waste. Anyone can download the free Refill app to find Refill Stations near them where they can refill on the go. Refill Stations are where you can fill up your bottle, at cafes and restaurants. See link above.
Are you a Breastfeeding Friendly business? Breastfeeding Friendly scheme shows that you provide a safe and welcoming place for mothers who want to breastfeed their baby when they are out and about in Greenwich.  Register your business here & get promoted and free window stickers
Do you use recycled or compostable packaging?
Do you separate, recycle and/or compost your food and oil waste?
Are you an accredited London Living Wage employer? If you are paying your staff the London Living Wage you can get accreditation.See link above.
Do you partner with your community? (e.g. support community events, donate food left over, host community group meetings)
