Ripe bananas are useful things to have in the house but there is only so much banana bread anyone can eat.
Instead, here is the first of 3 easy home made recipes to use reduce food waste and use bananas in a different way.
One ingredient banana ice cream:
Step 1 - Simply chop ripe banana into chunks
Step 2 - Freeze overnight
Step 3 - Whizz in a blender or smoothie maker until the mixture is soft and creamy.
Step 4 -Scoop in a bowl, and put in the freezer again to firm up if required, or enjoy as is.
Step 5 (Optional) - Add other soft fruits such as mango, strawberry or raspberry to ring the changes.
All of these recipes have been trialed at home by GCDA staff. They can be made quickly and easily by people with limited experience of cooking and with only a few inexpensive ingredients.
