Sustainable farming and strengthening food systems. Meet our new retail charter awardee, Sitopia Farm!

We spoke to our newest retail charter awardee, Sitopia Farm, about their work in Greenwich.

Tell us about your work at Sitopia Farm.

'Sitopia Farm is a two acre organic, regenerative farm and social enterprise based in Shooter's Hill on the wider Woodlands Farm Trust land. Our name Sitopia means 'the food place' and through our work we seek to reconnect people to the soil, the joy of good food and flowers, and each other, ultimately seeking to create a better food system in SE London and beyond. We grow fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers and supply to our local community through a subscription scheme and to chefs, florists and wedding couples across London. We have a hyper-local focus, largely supplying those who live within a few miles of the farm. We also supply our neighbours at Severndroog Castle Café as well as bigger London restaurants. We believe we can and should grow more food in the city so alongside growing veg, we work with local schools, run growing courses, community volunteering and team days to inspire others to help us create a better Sitopia. Connecting people to how food is produced and to the story behind the food is also part of our mission so we also run a monthly pop up farm shop and open day, March-October, to give local people the chance to come down and explore the farm, meet our team and eyeball their producer.'

Why did you sign up to the Good Food in Greenwich retail charter?

'We believe we need a strong local food system. We hope to connect to other Greenwich food businesses as well as residents and improve the connection and collaboration between us. We've been running for 4 years and every week people find out about us who had no idea we were here. We'd love to welcome more of the community down for our courses, volunteering sessions and events, and to buy from us, as we grow and develop.'
