Reflections on Our Recent Creative Health Meeting

At our most recent Good Food in Greenwich meeting, held at Tramshed in Woolwich, we explored the topic of Creative Health. We heard from Helen Sorrel about The Bread Project, Aideen and Alain about the council's approach to Creative Health and Laura Brown from natural England.
We thought about who has a voice in conversations about creative health at a strategic level and spoke about how to best tap into community groups. Thinking about green social prescribing, we considered how some activities might be exclusionary in the way they promoted connecting to nature and explored how green prescribing might be more thoughtful and accessible, not providing a one-size fits all solution and supplementing these initiatives with other forms of support. Laura's presentation guided us from Leonard Cohen to bat conservation and gave us a lot of food for thought!
Stories about service users learning new skills while breaking bread with others were shared too and we thought about how food often does much more than simply fulfill our nutritional needs; it offers us cultural and social nourishment too.
The group then took part in a creative activity, imagining how creative interactions with food could positively impact our mental and physical wellbeing and channeling our inner artists to brainstorm (see pictures for our artworks). Overall it was a wonderful chance to hear about council updates and explore examples of what good looks like in this area.

Who are Good Food in Greenwich network meetings for?
These meetings are for everyone working or interested in Greenwich's food system. They are a place for us to explore shared areas of interest, challenges or solutions and for us to learn from one another and think collaboratively. They are for council members, public health teams, local businesses and organisations and community members alike!
