Spontaneous Salads and Feasts in a Flash, by Fay

Updated: 2 days ago

At our last Community Meal at Middle Park Community Centre, it was a sweltering 30 degrees, our regular volunteer chefs were on holiday.  We put a call out for new chefs and two came forward, unfortunately they both let us down on the day and were not able to attend.

So, with the expertise of our wonderful volunteers and co-ordinators, we looked at the lovely produce from the Felix Project… grapefruits, oranges, lemons, carrots, courgettes, potatoes and bread from Rhodes Bakery in Greenwich. We decided on such a sweltering day, to knock up a few salads! We prepared lentil & spinach salad, carrot and courgette slaw, potato salad, bread and oranges and grapefruit salad.

The meal went down a treat and many attendees reported how tasty and delicious the lunch was.  Given the hot weather and the demographics of the local area (older adults) we felt we would have a low turn out. However, we had approximately 35 people come out and they all enjoyed having a nutritious lunch together and meeting new people.
