GCDA run a whole host of food-based training and classes that all start again this September, and they’re not to be missed. So, whether you are a chef, business owner or someone who loves food and wants to learn more, there is something for you.
Introduction to Running a Food Business; Thursday 12th September, 10am – 1pm at GCDA in West Greenwich
A comprehensive, rapid introduction to food business. Covering the essential areas to consider if you are thinking of establishing a food business. We will cover market research, sustainability, financial forecasting, legal structures, menu planning & suppliers. This course is delivered by Claire Pritchard, CEO of GCDA and Chair of London Food Board.
Food Waste Training; Tuesday 17th September, 9am – 11am at GCDA in West Greenwich
Small businesses can throw away £10K worth of food per year! There are loads of reasons why businesses end up throwing food away from stock control to portion size, but staff training is absolutely key. This short training session will examine where you’re wasting food, how to minimise and prevent it. We will explore food production techniques and planning schedules that will ensure you waste less and earn more!
A 10-week guide to starting up in:

Led by industry experts, they’ll show you how to DEVELOP A PRODUCT, CREATE A BRAND, MAKE YOURSELF LEGAL and FIND A ROUTE TO MARKET.
Knife Skills; 3 weeks from Wed 25th September10am – 1pm
Our knife skills training will give you valuable tips and pointers on chopping techniques to make your job in the kitchen easier! Join us for this 3-week course to learn how to slice, dice and more. We’ll also look at how to sharpen a knife, and the different knives that you may (or may not!) need. Taught by a professional chef, you will have lots of opportunity to practice new skills. A delicious meal is made and eaten together at the end of the session.
Bread Making for Beginners; 2 weeks from Wednesday 13th November 10am – 1.30pm
A culinary class in bread making skills for beginners where you will learn the basics of breadmaking, the science behind bread, basic kneading, shaping and baking skills After this course learners will have the skills and knowledge to bake their own bread from scratch.

These cookery classes focus on making delicious, easy and quick recipes that are also healthy and affordable. Making small changes to the way we eat can have a huge impact on our health, such as measuring our salt, or learning to read labels. These classes will show you how in an informal and sociable setting – a great place to meet new people and have some fun. Participants also receive a free cook book on completion.
